I remember Jim from high school. He was talented then adn is talented now. His paintings are so beautiful and takes you back to a time that our parents went through. Simply beautiful!
Had the pleasure of meeting Hyrum Joe while in Santa Fe around the 17th of August 2010 while he was completing a wonderful trading post painting. His work is delightfully historic, telling a wonderful story with great artistic skill. He noted that E Foutz had helped his father at the Shiprock Trading Post as he began his creation of his wonderful, prize winning works. A young man with great skill & soul.
Tony,
We are so happy to know you and look forward to having your painting in our living room. Pancake breakfast again anytime you can make it !
So glad to see your paintints at Blue Rain. I almost feel I "discovered" you, since I first saw one of your paintings/prints at an Armory show in Santa Fe in the 1970s, and commented, "This artist is going to make it!" I have two of your works and never tire of that fantastic sky.
like nothing else!
Randall LaGro's work is really fantastic. I was forunate to visit his studio years ago when I attended a class at the Taos Institute of Art. I was then, and remain inspired by his work.
Very very nice, Growing up in the very landscape where alot of your paintigs take place. Let me tell you and anyone reading this looking at these painting has taken me back at least twenty years and gives me lots of memories growing up working the land in Dixon with my grandfather. Good job
OUT OF MY SIX CHILDREN, TWO ARE VERY TALENTED ARTISTICALLY. (AGES 17 & 15)
WE ALL CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOUR GALLERY WHEN WE VISIT SANTA FE NEXT WEEK - YOUR TALENT IS VERY INSPIRING FOR OLD "WANT-TO-BE ARTISTS" LIKE MYSELF, AND MY UP & COMING ARTIST DAUGHTERS -
IT'S INSPIRING FOR THEM TO SEE A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG LADY LIKE TAMMY GARCIA LET HER BEAUTY POUR OUT HER FINGER TIPS AND INTO WHATEVER SHE IS CREATING.
Hi Shelley,
Your work is truely inspired. I'm especially taken with White Birch and Trufulla. May your giftedness continue.
Rocío
Exciting pieces!!
More need to know about this culture. Should be amazing!
...I see a lot of improvement and metamorphosis. Your art is going in the right direction ,not to mention the media and substance very impressive!!! It makes me happy that your artistic charge is bursting in so many directions..CONGRATULATION,Stanley
My favorite piece in Echoes Fire Shadows was the Eagle Transformation Mask--it was hung at eye level for me, and as I gazed at it, this white 58 year old woman glimpsed magic.
Thank you.
Hey Bruce-- hope all is well in your life. Say hi to Frankie B too.
I think your art work is exquisite. It's different from the Northern native art work. I'm a native american also and I find your art work very inspiring and interesting. You're a very purdy man by the way.
Tammie:
Condolences on the loss of your grandmother. One great artist falls while another rises.
Went to Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe and was blown away by the wonderful works of art...the paintings, the sculpture, the glass....wow....I am in love
Hey stranger!!! How are you doing? I hope all is well with you and your children! Anyway, i was admiring your artwork and your picture on this page. Your artwork is creatively brilliant and your picture, well i would have to agree with the other ladies....you are still handsome as ever!
I hope you don't mind that I love to reference your art into my paintings, which are meager indeed when compared to your beautiful artwork. You inspire this sixty-five year-old Pojoaque woman to start painting again when the woes of my world crash into my peace and my spirit is weak. Thank you.
Jim Your work is great some of the best work out in Santa Fe.you always put out a solid body of work.Keep up the good work look forward to seeing you at the show.Your the new school of good painters in New Mexico much respect god bless you and your familia.
You are a phenomenal artist and great art teacher
We love and appreciate you!
Dodie, Danielle and Tyler
I am a huge Tony Abeyta fan, so it would only be natural that Blue Rain is one of my most favorite places on Earth .... Hope to visit again very soon! Jenny in California xx
I see no mention of Jim Vogel. He is a force to be reckoned with! I hope to see more of his work!
We absolutely love your work and find it to be such a welcome addition to our home. It contributes to the warmth and coziness that we feel on a daily basis. Our guest enjoy the same feelings when they see your work in our home. No other artists can capture the skies that we so love here in New Mexico. We always look forward to viewing your work, up close and personal, at the Blue Rain Gallery. They are so gracious and do a beautiful job representing your work.
I have collected LDS art work. LOVE YOUR WORK!!!
Thank you Jim for letting us see and hear you at work. It was especially moving to me to hear of your desire to continue the story telling tradition of the family through your art. The tin frames are beautiful. Two hearts beat as one.
Jim's work reveals to me the connection between earth and man; especially in people who work directly with it. Our hands help us to be human. His love of family and his sense of the history of a place, vibrate in his work. Thank you for doing it!
Jim"s painting's are a extension of him, very real and very warm. What talent he has.
Great art work, Now I finally have a great example of a contemporary artist to show my students when presenting one of my visual art weaving lessons.
Athur is my grandfather. He is a VERY talented person.
He is just amazing. i love spending time with him.
Writing a paper on you right now...just thought you'd like to know
Hi,
I grew up in Taos with a Yellowbird Samora, I am wondering if you are the same Yellowbird? On a side note, love your pottery, very beautiful.
Thanks,
Poppi Monroe
I visited the Echo, Fire and Shadow exhibit at the Tacoma Glass Museum and was moved beyond words to see such a respectful nod to tradition in a new and exciting way. If you can't afford the art, buy the book.
COOL
Beautiful lines and great character.......very interesting presentation of the subject matter.

Your talent is God's gift to you.
You are the best!!!!

Comment:
I have been enjoying your works which have been featured in S/W Art mag.and Western Art Collector mag.
I began painting seriously seven years ago and am enjoying depicting day of the dead as well as retablo themes.
I look forward to viewing more of your work.
Thank you, John
dude your work is so friggin awesome!!!
All of your artwork is amazing. Keep it up!
It's "Sand Blossom" (for web#1856) by Susan Folwell. Another beautiiful gift from this unusually gifted and talented artist. And as always the more times you look at it, the more you see and feel. .
Ben, I am in absolutel awe of you and your work. It moves me
what incredible talent, love the innovation and continuous push forward.
I really appreciate your work, it inspires me in my paintings. thank you and look forward to more of your visions.
Your hands are truly blessed by the Creator!! Your work is just beautiful and breath taking!!
Anna & Charlie, So good to hear your comments. You'd enjoy seeing these paintings I'm sure. I definitely remember painting the Rio Grande Gorge painting you collected. Best wishes to you!
Beautiful . artists like yourself bring me back to Santa Fe year after year .
The only word I find upon my lips is "Amazing." No other artist of your craft can match the harmonic balance that resonates between the pieces of each whole. Lavrio is a master alchemist and has no other to rival his art and craft. It is my honor to wear his work.
Your oils are breathtaking!
We haven't been in New Mexico since we had dinner with you several years ago, but are itching to get back. Would love to see your new work in person! The oil you did for us is still one of our favorites.
Still love the "Doug West Skies"!
Anna and Charlie
Your artwork is absoloutly, positively wonderful! You're very cute too! Are you married? Oh, wait a minute....I am. Ooooops!
i would like to know if les went to school in west jordan, ut
I am absolutely blown away by the incredible designs of Maria Samora. I stumbled across an article about her and have gone online to see her jewelry and read more about her. I can't wait to make a visit to Santa Fe and visit the gallery so I can see her jewelry up close. I hope to someday own one of her exquisite pieces.
Roberta Iacino
Eagle, CO
Your work is awe inspiring, I have the good fortune to own one of your large paintings of Taos Pueblo, which I have visited many times, the lovely pastels with the dark underpainting gives the depth of being there on my old adobe wall. I appreciate your attention to detail translated by your careful eye. I also paint and write poems to go with and truely appreciate the energy that goes into your work. Thank you! Karen
Rey,
Knowing that you have viewed this land your entire life and respond to my work means very much to me. My new show of paintings reflects my connection with what I love most about the Southwest- its clarity of light and vast dimensional space. Thanks for your positive comments.
DW
David Bradley's work offers viewers a visually powerful, brilliantly detailed insight to the contemporary struggle of Native American peoples. The paintings are simply beautiful, the colors vibrant and light-filled, the images at once caustic, yet gentle, and caring. Bradley's intellect and palette are important to the art world and the social evolution of American life. Keep on truckin' Mr. B!
THE Ultimate NEO-Contemporary-Aboriginal. Talk About the skill of Patience, What an Art!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Your a great artist keep up the good work.See u around brother peace.
Absolutely amazed by your show in Tacoma. The raven pieces especially powerful. Thank you! EVA
A friend brought me a brochure of your work when she visited the
Corning Museum. Your work is stunning! I especially love the
use are using the medium of glass.Look forward to seeing your
work somewhere. Loved the video too! Thanks for sharing your
wonderful talent. stormyc
Thanks for sharing part of your process. Knowing an artists need for solitude while working, You're brave to have let the camera and us into that private space.
Love this!!! Very interesting
Love this!!! Very interesting
I love your art! I was in the gallery this weekend and I was blown away. I hope to one day have some of your beautiful artwork hanging in my house. Thank you for sharing your talent.
heybruce
I am a native Santa Fean who has always had an intense appreciation for the beauty of New Mexico. It was in my early twenties that I first came into contact with Doug West's work.
When I saw his images I was blown away -- the vision and beauty of his art resonated with my own visceral experiences of this landscape we call the Land of Enchantment. Since that time my love for his work has grown in ever increasing levels of appreciation.
Thank you Doug for your inspiration and the beauty of your work.
Most sincerely,
Rey De Lupos
I was both inspired and awed by the depth and scope of his work. His visions and execution are far and away the most exciting I have ever seen .. Kudos
Arthur Lopez takes a deep traditional craft and applies his exceptional skills to give it a contemporary interpretation that has heightened appeal for today's art lovers.
Just saw your exhibit at the Corning Rockwell Museum of Art. It is truly awesome and inspiring--I am in awe of one who can accomplish what you do with clay, glass or bronze.
What a cool guy! Great video! I loved the bit about using an eracer. How I wish I could afford his work!!!!
it was an amazing exhibit! as always-great work amigo!
The video is wonderful! Especially to thoses of us who used to live in NM. I first saw Jim's work many years ago when he was in the Dixon Studio Tour. Thanks for posting this. His work is amazing.
The wine bottle was an amazing depiction of the experience of addiction - the illusion of sharing what becomes a private hell. I really liked the shots of the body of Jesus with the artist's face superimposed and very ethereal, and then the very down to earth close ups of the artist's hands working with his materials - it was very satisfying.
Thanks for sharing these comments and insights on your creations. Beautiful body of work in this show. Best wishes ... Rick and Jerry
Randy~It was wonderful knowing you when we went to CF, used to love teasing you about being your agent as I always believed you had a talent that would someday be shared by the world!
Remember you staring at the Gargoyles my Father had brought back from France that were mounted in our family room. Wonderful to see the fantasy in some of your work is so reflective with the European, Old World feeling I love.
Even more happy for you that you have fulfilled your dreams, have the same calm, thoughtful demeaner as you did when you were in your 20s.
Thank you for sharing your gift with so many!
Many blessings to you and yours........
~Teri
Your designs are absolutely stunning!
These pieces really show landscape the way I see it....with color that sings and dances through your senses. Night Rain and Aspens in the Moonlight are fantastic in my view.
Recently we visited the WDC Womens Museum because we had heard your art was on exhibit there. I was so impressed by your talent and hard work produced from mother earth. Thank you...
What an incredible combination of talents!
The work of Shelly and Tammy together or alone is really amazing! I love the South Western influence.
WOW! Shelley - Oh my, my dear, this is one of the most exciting communications I've received. The background music adds to it - but here I sit, in my AC office in the desert, and I can feel the heat of the fire. Can't wait to see your new work. We'll be in Anacortes June 13 - Flicka sends her love.
your work is magnificent! I saw it in Prescott Valley.
hes a great artist and i hope he keeps producing more and more art
tony has a great feel
You are truly a talent Mr. Namingha! Thanks sooooo much for sharing your beautiful work with the world.
Im always so anxious to see what youve come up with. All of your paintings make me wish i were there.
Raven Steals the Moon is wonderful as is all Mr. Singletary's work. Going to the Blue Rain Gallery is one of the first things to do upon arriving in Taos. That and going to Mantes Chow Cart.
Tammy,
Your work is spiritually moving.
Magnificent.
.see you on FB
Lorenza
I studied with you at the Taos Art Institute in 2002 and your class changed my art so much for the better. I have been wanting to tell you this for years. Forgive me for taking so long. You are an amazing artist and an amazing and generous teacher.
The presence of human analogs diminishes your power by distraction. The more you abstract, the more astonishing your work is, and it is definitely that. Magnificent!
Beautiful work. Beautiful video!
Thank you for sharing your art pieces -- and that's what they are; not just jewelry, but also art. I really like combination of color and form (be it fluid, solid, solemn, mysterious, or lively), as complemented by each of their names. They all paint vivid pictures in my imagination -- brings me back to the wonderfully simple but strikingly organic movement in some Sesame Street's animation segments that I still remember to this day.
Lavrio's/Larry's work is beyond measure. It is a blending of spirit, fire and stone, integrated with the power of gold. He is one of a kind, in many ways. A true master indeed...
Omygawd! What an experience! I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Ben McPherson has created a work of art unlike anything I've ever seen before.
Wow. You're the artist I hope to become...all kinds of media, whichever one(s) fits the concept, that's what you use...wonderful work!!!
I aways knew Thomas would be a successful artist in one aspect or another, It brings me much joy to see you become such an aspiring artist,
We are fortunate to have an original Howard painting from a few years back. Seeing these makes us want more - especially the untitled work # 8152.
Her work brings to one's mind the simpler and more beautiful experiences in life and each piece speaks to you.
These are absolutly spiritual and beautiful.
I love the passion and insight he puts into his peices, how each jem or stone tells it's own story.
Bob, Thanks for your positive comment.
Doug, I too would like to acknowledge your allowing us into your art as you create. It does allow a whole new appreciation of the artist and the image created. It breeds excitement.
To the Blue Rain Design Group and Gallery, I thank you for this view of Doug West and the other views you have produced of artists in creation. It is an intimacy and insight I hold most dear. Your commitment to art and artists and your creativity remains unique.
i love you whats your clan? i just love the art work that u do!!!!it is amazing
mr.Tony Abeyta i love you u!!!!!
that was amazing!!! i loved it
you have extremely inspiring work thanks ma'am
Thank you, Doug, for sharing your creative process. I see your "Willows" in a different way now. The video images by Blue Rain Gallery stand alone as art in my book.
Thanks Paulette for your comment. This was a first for me, and a lot of fun. Of course by virtue of the size of this canvas, it remains in progress still. But the beauty of the videos produced by Blue Rain Gallery is they offer a glimpse of artist's studios and their individual creative process... a view collectors rarely see.
Doug, I was smiling the whole time! So fascinating to see how you make such beautiful art! Thank you,.....
I love your paintings. They remind me a little of Thomas Hart Benton.
Steve, Thanks for your positive comments. I love the colors that result from New Mexico's clear skies. The lIght... it truly is why so many artists are inspired by this place.
I strive to bring a heightened sense of realism by adding detail to my paintings, while still retaining the unique signature that brushes produce applying oil to canvas.
Best Regards,
DW
Tony,
I watched the video. Amazing!
I really would love to ge back in touch. I'm still in Colorado.
Peace,
Karen
What a great video of the artist at work. So elegant but approachable. Thanks for posting this.
I love your work Doug its fantastic I love your color & detail WOW
Wonderful. New Mexico has it's own Thomas Hart Benton! He captures the essence of New Mexico like no other. What a treasure.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching Larry work! and the music accompanied my interest and encouraged my enjoyment!
Wow! Your work is beautiful. So glad we had a few wooden tools for you.
Hi Shelley, I enjoyed looking at your work. Nice stuff. Good people come from Manitoba like your Mom and Dad. Your Mom's brother is married to my twin sister Roxie.
I am a wood carver and carve funking boots from cast off wood.
Wishing you continued success, Roman
Awesome! Thank you, Blue Rain and Tony Abeyta, for sharing. It is especially interesting to see how any artist begins and ends a piece.
Blue Rain has become a favorite gallery. I worked on the Larson Jules "Works of Art" project a couple of years back and was most impressed with the gallery and the staff.
My favourite piece of art in the world is Raven Steals the Moon, I saw this at a museum in Seattle & from that moment on I think about the beauty of this piece. One day.... Bridget
Very Nice and great team work.Wish you where still in Taos.
#1. Tony Abeyta is one of my favorite artists, if not my favorite. Every brush stroke seems to have meaning. #2. His technique seems in harmony with his subject matter, and his subjects resonate for anyone who loves the southwest. #3. I hope he does more large canvases like the one in the video!
More photographic based psuedo-surrealism. How interesting. Dali would be amused.
Thank you for sharing this spectacular video with the world. I'm from Germany and I love sculpting and arts. The result from Tammy Garcias work of Art is really outstanding.
Incredibly interesting, thank you for sharing. The end result is as beautiful as all of her other pieces, quite magical really.....
Dear Tony,
I've only "met" you through your videos, which I find myself searching for after seeing the "Underworldness" one at the Heard Museum. I'm deeply touched by your art in all its forms, but particularly the black and white. I dabble in many art forms (mostly weaving), but your work has actually inspired me to paint for the first time in my life. It's wonderful that you can talk with your audiences while creating such incredible stuff without missing a beat. Thank you for all your beautiful, inspiring work, and please come back to SOFA Chicago next year so I can come to see you!
Awsome, now if I could just win the lottery.
Any chance of being in on any of the future fireings or just as a spectator? From one ceramic artist/enthusiast to another.
I purchased her pottery in 1978 in Phoenix. Would like to learn more about her work.
Josh.......I remember that little blond headed kid wrestling at Mountainville with Tommy. You've come far, and your talent is outstanding. I see much of your mothers influnence in you work. I still have all the hand made birthday cards she sent me.
Stay Well Joshua.........Michael
What an inspiring video! The fire, artist, earth, friends assisting and of course the beautiful pot. Pure delight. Thank you!
It was nice to have met you Peter. This years show was fantastic and your space setup was well done. You have so many great artists. . See you in Santa Fe next June.
Doug
How interesting and fun to see how these amazing pots are fired! I was thinking that it would be a great video to show in a high school art class. I'm assuming that the fire is put out with the sand to allow the pot to cool slowly so that it doesn't crack.
Great video! Thanks for sharing it.
This is truly great style and flavoring.
I am doing a project for art class, and your work is so new and innovative that I am doing it on you. God bless those hands of yours that put out this wondrous art!
Ms. Garcia, I'm doing a project on a modern artist, and I would like to know why you make the work that you do. I love it so much- it really strikes me and puts thoughts in my head.
WOW! Absolutely the most beautiful jewelry and the creativity is impeccable. I hope to own of one of these Native American beauties!
Amazing! A wonderful intro to the mystries of art and it's expression.
Ohhh so BEAUTIFUL! With juxtaposition of complexity and simplicity your work tells a fantastic story. I so enjoy your work. It makes me smile.
Cherie
Great work
As this was my first viewing of shelley muzylowski allen's art, I loved what for me was a surprise ending. I have seen glass artists at work before, and so was very impressed by the physicality and scale of the process. What really struck me was the simultaneous sponteneity (now, that's what I saw; perhaps every possible dribble was under control.) and deliberateness of the process. In my mind I "saw" the final result ... Alchemy! Magic! Not what was in my mind at all! Ah Ha! Beautiful. Thank you for the show!
E. Marie Baker
wow! what a great film. I had never seen you doing your own work start to finish. You seemed so focused and in control.Maybe it's the feminine touch but differant from watching Rik or Bill. Julia and Jacob watched it with me and were facinated by the whole thing. We have to get them out there to really see the scale of it all. Love to you and Ric, Sally
wow josh, utterly speechless, as always you have such haunting beauty in the strokes of your brush. I feel blessed to understand tid bits of what you have painted, and am compelled to hear the story of the rest. you have a gift of bringing your imagination into the physical world.
brandi
Amazing - I have seen you working in person and now on the video. Just watching it sends me through all sorts of emotions- power, calm, assertive, precision, control and a little anxiety and stress. It is so intense and you perform it so well. And the outcome-magnificent. Carry on...I will live vicariously through you!
Look into my grandmother "Marriane Navasie" decesed. Also a fine artist of the traditional Hopi Pottery.
I had no idea how you created your beautiful works. Your new horse is lovely but I really love my sea horses.
It looks like a lot of hard work, but very nice. Thanks for sending it. I loved the work that was on the gallery card you sent me...........
Ben,
Your paintings are beautiful! You touch many peoples hearts with your work!
Very cool photography....how did you do that. I am inspired!!
he is a very well talented person, he is the best grandfather anyone could have and spends most of his time carving and farming. Most of all he loves spending time with his grandchildren.
We love you gwa-ah!
I do truly believe that you have one of many great creations from one profound artist. His elegant style of Native American Contemporary Art has swept inquisitive minds and alluring eyes to firmly believing that all possibilities can and will be accomplished. Yet, still capturing the integrity and humbleness of the love for art and the will to endeavor to excel. Thank you.
Just came across this. Man, these are beautiful! I hope to see in person soon. We were in the same program at Lacoste. Anyway, really cool to see what you've been making - or what has been made through you. Cheers!
Thanks for the opportunity to have Bronzesmith do the patina demonstration again this year. As always it is a pleasure to work with the Blue Rain Gallery group. We look forward to exciting new work in the future.
Wish I could have been there, the video was beautiful.
We purchased two of Kevin Short's works, "Let's Go" and "Abiquiu," from Blue Rain from among this collection. Two years later, we admire the work even more than when we first saw them in the Gallery.
Les's pots are wonderful! We can't be in Santa Fe this summer : between Mom's dying and the re-opening of our burned facility we have to stick closer to home. What can we do?
Jeff
Enjoyed the video. Davids work is outstanding.
looks like you still have the touch.
See you there
magnificant. No matter what the art is was absolutly fabulous. They were all beautiful and you could see the heart and soul they put forth in their art.
breathtaking video. Beautiful creations. I wish I was going to be at the show! What an experience.
It is amazing to see Jim Vogel at work and to hear him speak about his paintings and inspiration. It adds yet another layer of interest to his paintings. Thank you for sharing this insightful piece!
GREAT!
These pieces thrilled my senses when I saw them in the gallery on Monday. Vivid, sharp, soft..... they drew me in.
The fused glass, intense color - gathering light from the window.
Susie Fowler
I was so pleased to see Deborah's work in your gallery on Monday. Her graceful forms are pleasing and the imagery compelling.
And Richard Zane Smith's new pieces are as intricate and close to the earth as possible!
Wonderful visit. Thanks, Susie Fowler
Thank you for showing the artists at work. There is nothing more fascinating than the creative process.
Blessings
Shanny Lott
Very nice!
Enjoyed the video--bacground music too loud when he was speaking. Video give interesting information.
≈ Tony... you are so super ≈
xox, jen
I remember driving cross country and made sure to make it through Taos on our way to CA. I am so grateful that we ran into Blue Rain Gallery and saw your amazing work. I am a fine artist in FL, but I hope so some day to own a piece of yours. Your work has made a place in my mind always and you will have yet another admirer of your amazing creations.
I wanted you know that I always keep a quote of yours printed out on the wall in my studio - "We are all journeying. Our journeys encompass our past, our upbringing, our anguishes and joys..." My work will always be about my journey and your inspiration will be a part of the path I am on.
Thank you for sharing your visions with this world!
-Sarah Taylor
I LIKE YOUR WORKS,KEEP UP THE GREAT WORKS. EXCELLENT .
Joshua,
brother, I love the work - good BAIT.
to God the glory...
Mr. Vigil, we purchased two of your pieces in 2006. You were very kind to spend time with us in both 2006 and 2007. We will continue to enjoy your pieces and share them with friends and family for years to come.
Hey-Bruce is my brother and I just want you all to know his family is very proud of the man and artist he has become. He is very caring, he calls daily to check on mom. Its nice to know he's done so well doing work that is so moving/spiritual and being able to love what you do everyday. He is truely blessed. Love you Bruce your little sis Michelle.
Really nice work, Josh. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I especially like the Union Stela.
Many dreams and visions hidden in there.
I hope you're well.
Come visit us in Santa Fe soon.
-Gregory (from OZ school)
This colletion is GREAT! Is there no Title to any of the art?
One of my most favorite artist in all the world, hoping someday to own a piece. My favorite ones are ethereal and using soft colors in the green plate. Ow I just most all.
Hope to meet you at your next opening.
Preston has brought the 21st century into native art - spectacular! Would he consider teaching?
Wonderful work. Technical expertise combined with a sense of whimsy are a winning combination in my book.
When I viewed the video clips of my neighbor Deborah Rael-Buckley on this site, I was struck by all that her art form demands of her. The physicality of her whole body as she moves around her creation, bending over it, molding it, her arms and hands building, layering, and smoothing it; a disciplined technical skill required to control what could be a run-away process; a mental and spiritual concentration exacted to “gather the images” from memory and even from what has been forgotten; and a keen presence to be at one with what is becoming in her studio: all signs of a master ceramicist.
When I first stepped into Deborah’s studio a few years ago, I stood before a ceramic sculpture in tribute to her father-in-law who had died from cancer, as my father recently had. Her sculpture held memories and symbols so powerfully present and real in all of their dimensions, that all I could manage to do, was to turn around and walk back home accompanied by my father, remembering him again, and how much I had loved him and still do.
Gracias Deborah!
Joshua
Thank you for sharing your art work. May you always give glory to God in painting the wonders of His creation.
Fr. Dennis
Don't know any contemporary artist that makes work of such sublime beauty and ideas and humor at once. I love it.
Josh,
Your work continues to grow & grow. I am excited to see what is next. I truely enjoy you and your talent!
You Rock!
This moves me. It really connects with me.
I am amazed by the depth of meaning within the pieces that Deborah Rael-Buckley creates. She creates these sculptures that are life sized without any internal support system. They have so many hiddent meanings that relate to her background, New Mexico culture and life in general. They are incredibly rich and beautiful. The colors and shapes make them unique on their own but there is this deeper message that lies beneath the surface that waits to be interpreted. I happen to be an owner and and am always surprised at the reaction generated when people encounter Deborah's art for the first time. Once people get beyond the sheer beauty of the sculpture they ask numerous questions about the symbolism incorporated within the piece. She is able to mesh earthy beauty with commentary on life.
Father and Son -- Simply stated, Genius!
In 1994, a young 27 year old female was awarded "The Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts" to include "The Allan Houser Memorial Award". I would think that she was the "youngest" to receive such a high honor. This artist that I am speaking of is, Cheryl Joe, an absolutely excellent sculptor! I wish you all the best for also winning such a high honor. Congratulations!
CONGRATULATIONS, TAMMY!
This most deserved recognition could not come too soon.
We love your work so much - THANK YOU.
Stew and Maryann Matthews
Golden, Colorado
This is terrific news. Scott and I have been long time members of SWAIA and really appreciate your doing this.
Traditional designs, interpreted in a contemporary way is what draws me to Tammy and Preston's work!
Just searching on the internet and found my name and comment in your blog....how amazing. I'm looking forward to be able to afford an other piece of art from you.

Fantastic show Tammy! The glass was breathtaking!
I loved the Raven piece that was on the cover of the Smithsonian magazine (I think) . Is that piece available? I'm sure I couldn't afford it, but I like to dream about owning it!!!
Beautiful video.
Fantastic work cousin!
Amazing, quite beyond anything that I have seen.....
Beyond words really.
i never know about you until i had to study you work for my art class. but now that i am familiar with your work you really inspire me.
you rock
wow
hi
Wonderful work, so much to see, and wry commentary...I look forward to seeing more of his work!
Beautiful work, looked like it went by really smooth. I am impressessed that the younger generation is getting back into glass work. It requiers lots of patients, some artists are not ready to handle.
These pieces are outstanding. I hope in the future to buy at least one.
Very beautiful work. It has some of the charactristics of a self-taught artist but the style is very personal because of the subject matter, but the landscapes are very sophisticated. Wonderful execution.
Whoo Hoo...............
This is truely powerful work. I enjoy the symbolism involved as well as the composition. Gerald, you are very talented.
i love ur work
hey rodney what it do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOUR JEWELRY!!!!!!!!!!!!
make me a pair just kidding. well c u l8ter brother oh wait wait my mom said hello and bye...........
Inspiring and beautiful! Can't wait to get to Taso next month and see more in person. We'd love to see more videos like this of all the artists at work. Thanks!
We found this art and video very interesting and the music accompanied the process well. We'd like to see more of this and Tony A. is inspiring to watch. The art is symmetrical and the video brings that out in Tony's organic methods while being relaxing to watch. It would be great to hear Abeyta speak about his art too. Miss the gallery in Taos, you don't know till it's gone...
Way cool!!!!
Mateo had some wonderful things in a show on war in Santa Fe. Why don't you carry more contemporary imaging of his? I found it to be a nice alternative to traditional (and expected) native themes.
Congratulations on being included in Southwest Art's top 10 artist to watch in 2008. Your vibrant colors and thoughtful compositions bring joy to all who see your art.
Being true to your spirit always brings rewards beyond our wildest imaginations. We are so proud and happy for you!
It is great to see the contemporary power of your work. You color is strong and exciting; your design is inventive. I particularly enjoyed the butterfly series.
It's great to see contemporary work like this! Wonderful!
I remember your amazing studio in Taos, where I interviewed you for Tempo. You were working more on monotypes then, so it's nice to see your paintings also. I interviewed so many artists when I lived in Taos, and many of them have blended together in a blur, but I have always remembered your work. Mary
Finally! A young artist has a maturity of a master painter! The artworks a very nice to look at and examine. Thank you!
Your paintings are wonderful to see! Thank goodness you include the other beings that share Mother Earth with us. That is so cool!
Your paintings are very beautiful and must have a personal meaning behind them all. It must take alot of thought, im guessing you probebly stare at a blank wall at church, and the picture flows threw your mind. Thats what helps me paint.
You're still an amazing painter -- as I remember you years ago when I lived in Taos. Just thought about you today out of the blue. Carol
wooow !!! I loooove your work !!! keep it coming !! As a fellow artist I appreciate your ability to be open enough to allow the subconscious to flow in you .!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!
I love your beautiful artwork! My family and I were so happy when we got to get a tour of your art studio and met the other people that helps you out! Knowing how much time and effort that you spend to make each piece special makes me appreciate you even more. Keep up the great work!
We love our Tammy Garcia piece and it was a great pleasure to meet her this past August. She is amazingly creative and seems to have a feel for many different media which is unique. We hope and trust that she will continue to stretch her talent to places only she can determine. Keep up the great work, Tammy!
We have enjoyed our Mardi Gras bronze piece so much and would love to have one of these beautiful glass pieces. The nation is lucky to have such a great artist creating such a treasure. Thank you.
I discovered Tammy's work on a recent trip to Sante Fe. The precision is remarkable. How she can transform her mind's eye into the material's available is the talent of a true genius, but first and foremost, it must be in her mind.
Art is in the minds of the artist and the beholder. She is doing her part.
may god bless your hands and your beautiful gift. your work makes life even more pleasurable.
Dear Tony--
Happy Birthday! keep making your wonderful art that touches the depths of our spirits and gratitudes.
Ken Goodhue-McWilliams
Have visited both of your galleries often with my friend Jeanne Williams; they have a home in Taos. We shall be looking forward to seeing you at SOFA! The video is very well presented. It would be great if you could add a verbal description of him/his work (although the music is pleasant). Will he be demonstrating At SOFA? Thanks
wonderful!!! good to see another type of native artist other than what we are so used to seeing. iam native but modern! thanks devin
Thank you for sending me this information. It looks fresh and exciting.

Mr.Tony Abeyta,you are the best!!!!
The new gallery space is beautiful. We couldn't get enough of it during Indian Market. Thanks also for a great Indian Market show ... the art, the glass and patina demonstrations and, of course, the staff make it one of our favorite annual events. You never let us down.
All our best wishes.
Beautiful pieces, Cavan, with deep spiritual significance, I am sure. I am honored to have taught you at SCIS. I will watch for your pieces in museums.
Wallace is a amazing artist and wish you had more works available.
Thanks,George
Your pottery is amazing! The best I have seen anywhere. You are an absolute genius. Keep up the good work!
Dear Mr Tony Abeyta, I Don't know if you remember who I am.I was fortunate enough to meet you for the first time at the Blue Rain Gallery during the 2006 Indian Market. All I want to say is thank you for taking the time to tell me about your work and for the tremendous amount of inspiration you have given me.Once again thank you very much
Wonderful! I am Jennifer Esperanza's Mother and have her photo of Tony holding one of his paintings while walking on its site. I love the photo and the this video brings Tony's work to life. Hoping to see some of the work in on my next trip to New Mexico.... thanks for the experience. CD
Your work is world class.
Enjoyable glimpse!
this video really makes me inspired, thanks for sharing!
I just love your work Tammy! I can't wait for Indian Market this year.
This blog is an unexpected pleasure and rich opportunity to get to know the exceptional artists of New Mexico, our adopted home and dream come true. Art and history are the foundations of this remarkable celebration of life that we now call home . . . and we are grateful for the rich blessings that the Blue Rain Gallery provides.
Ms. York, thank you for your sumptous contribution to our world.
As I sat and watched this video of Tammy and Star Liana York I could just imagine how much Wally would have loved this piece of art.
Thank you for keeping me on your e-mail list, Tammy.
Anita J. Lange (E. Walter Lange)
Wow!
I love your work! The horses and bears are my very favorites! I am a teacher in West Virginia. I visited Blue Rain Gallery when my family and I took a vacation out West last August. I fell in love with some of the art work being displayed in the Blue Rain Gallery.
I hope I can see your work "up close and personal"
the next time I visit Santa Fe!
God has richly blessed you with your creative gift.
I will pray that He continues to bless you.
You are blessing us with your fabulous talent.
Thank you so much-
Kris Hinrichs :)
Thank you! That was so enjoyable! Its a pleasure to hear the artist talk and explain her work.
Hello,
I so love your work and find the suggestive qualities are very intriguing. Creating art
from an inner source and dialogue is very exciting for the viewer and especially the
artist.
Karen
A wonderful beginning. Our home is full of works of art because we value creativity. Thanks for opening a window on this wonderful human endeavor.
Great beginning! How about some interviews?
Wow! Thank you! In a future edition I hope you will include comments from the artists.
Thanks for a glimpse of what most of us do not get to see...love to see you expand this idea...keep up the good work.
Thanks
Tim
Wow, Leroy. That was cool. That was a real good piece, very emotional and super beautiful - it was good to see them in their studios like that. The blogs are cool, it really makes one feel a part of it.
Hope your well, and hello to Tammy and your family.
Your former employee,
Lisa Chase
Well done, good beginning. I would like to see a longer presentation with some comments by the artists themselves.
the idea of watching an artist work online sounds very cool to
me - hope your blog efforts continue.
Leroy:
The blog is a great idea. Sorry we will still be in Arizona for your big weekend. Congratulations.
Richard & Doris
Eager to visit the studios of the excellent artists you represent.
great idea very innovative looking foward to the tour and the works
Dear Tammy, Leroy and the Staff at Blue Rain Gallery,
Now that the dust has settled, we would like to recognize what a great honor it was to host the patina demonstration at your gallery during Indian Market, 2006. It was a pleasure to get to know some of the collectors and share with them our enthusiasm in achieving the highest level of quality we are capable of attaining in the art market today.
The Staff at Bronzesmith
Congratulations Blue Rain Gallery and all of the artists on a successful Indian market! The work was fantastic!
Jim and Christen Vogel
I do wish that galleries and museums would stop assuming that everyone who buys art is a "collector." Many occasional buyers of art (my wife and I included) buy what we see thatt we like and can afford at the time. To buy is not necessarily to "collect."
Thanks for the "4 points" on buying. Now...how about elaborating a bit on each. That would be great. For instance, What is the significance of the number of pieces the artist produces each year? What does one look for to see if a piece is well made? What do you mean by "pricing integrity"?
Thanks for the good blog.
BB
I love your website. I have only been to your galleries once, but I was able to visit both in Taos and Santa Fe. You have amazing art and the galleries are beautiful. Keep up the good work!
